Neuro Optometrist and Founder of Vision Sense Optometry; Angela has a special interest in vision therapy and vision development. She practiced primary eye care for over 20 years and in 2016 she changed the course of her practice, bringing a proven, scientific service to Nova Scotia.
She established Vision Sense Optometry to address the function of the eyes and the eye-brain connection. Here she offers solutions and treatments previously unavailable in Nova Scotia.
She is able to help patients with post traumatic vision symptoms in their recovery from brain injury and concussions, as well as those with reading problems, eye imbalances, eye turns, lazy eyes, and even physical coordination difficulties.
Dr. Dobson has served on the Board and several committees of the Nova Scotia Association of Optometrists. She is currently the chair of the Vision Rehabilitation and Vision Therapy Committee. She has also served on the Board of Vision Therapy Canada.
When not working in neuro-optometry in some capacity, she enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, biking, swimming, kayaking, running, singing and enjoying all that Nova Scotia has to offer.
Residency Trained Optometrist in Pediatrics and Vision Therapy
Dr. Alice Yuan grew up in Vancouver, BC. She completed her Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Waterloo and was the recipient of the Good-Lite Pediatric Optometry award. Dr. Yuan has trained at many different externship locations, including a rotation at the Eye Centers of South Florida in Miami, where she worked alongside various ophthalmologists. She has also participated in clinics in Mexico, Manitoulin Island, and Northern Ontario to provide eye care to underserved communities.
During her residency she received extensive training in the areas of pediatric optometry, binocular vision therapy, neuro-rehabilitation, and eye care for special needs populations. At Vision Sense Optometry, Dr. Yuan practices with a focus on strabismus, amblyopia, binocular vision dysfunction, learning-related vision problems, developmental vision, and acquired brain injuries. She is committed to providing excellent care to patients of all ages. Dr. Yuan is happy to provide eye exams in English and Mandarin.
In her free time, Dr. Alice Yuan enjoys cooking, hiking, and travelling.
Vision Therapist
Odette graduated in 2020 from Dalhousie with a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology. After seeing loved ones
go through concussion recovery, she became interested in injury rehabilitation. With endless opportunities as
a new graduate, Odette began her journey as a vision therapist. Odette’s journey as a vision therapist at Vision Sense Optometry has been, and continues to be very fulfilling! She is an accredited Vision Therapist through Vision Therapy Canada.
Outside of the office, Odette can be found spending time with friends and family, being near the water, or listening to music.
Odette's journey in learning is continuing, as she starts a Master's degree in Occupational Therapy in the fall of 2024.
Vision Therapist
Erika has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Dalhousie University and received her vision therapy training through both the Optometric Extension Program Foundation (OEPF) and the Vision Therapy Canada accreditation program (PVTAP), while living and working in Ontario. She has 7+ years experience working as a vision therapist and an additional 3 years experience as an optometric assistant with certification from the Canadian Association of Optometrists. In 2023 she was happy to return to her home province of Nova Scotia and joined us at Vision Sense Optometry soon after.
Erika enjoys the challenge of working with patients of all ages and skill levels. She finds the role of vision therapist very rewarding and feels like she has found her true purpose in this field.
When not in the vision therapy room, Erika enjoys cooking, travelling, and spending time at her happy place – the beach.
Optometric assistant
Karyna has a Doctor of Medicine degree and residency in ophthalmology from Zaporizhzhia State Medical University of Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine. She has three years of working experience in a multidisciplinary clinic as an ophthalmologist in Odessa, Ukraine and has a certificate of Zeiss Vision Care.
She came to Canada with her family in 2023 and is currently working as an optometric assistant as she pursues Canadian licensure.
Most of her free time she spends with her family. She enjoys drawing portraits, skiing and modern oriental dancing.
Front Desk Administrator
Pankhuria has previous working experience as a Front Desk associate in the hospitality industry. She loves to greet people and help them in a kind and professional manner.
She has also been teaching Yoga for the past six years. Her passion for the health and wellness industry allows her to give the care our patients deserve.
Business Administrator/Receptionist
Kyra is our passionate administrator, currently working on her degree in Business Administration. she brings 3 years of experience to our business and is dedicated to assisting you in all your treatment needs.
Outside of Vision Sense, she enjoys spending her free time with her friends and family. Her interests recently expanded to include solo travelling.
